The Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau will soon commence house job training, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Bello Muhammed, has said.
Muhammed told a news conference in Gusau that the hospital was fully accredited by the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council to carry out the one year training of fresh graduates of medicine and surgery.
He added that the hospital also conduct internship in medical laboratory science.
He expressed concern over the exit of medical doctors from the hospital, saying that 20 doctors had left the hospital from January to date.
He noted that all the doctors that left the hospital went for further studies in other hospitals that do residency training.
He, therefore, called on the state government to do everything possible to see that the hospital
embarked on residence training “as lasting solution to the brain drain.”
The Chairman of Zamfara NMA, Dr Olagunde Kehinde, said that the aim of the scientific conference was to draw the attention of government on the new challenges and developments regarding the health sector.
He said that the theme of this year’s conference is “Safe Medical Practice in Challenged Environment.”
