In Nigeria today, there are a lot of Universities all around the country and in selecting a university, students always take a look at several thingsand then consider their options. While education standard or quality of education might be an important factor, the fees are also something to be considered by students before selecting a school they want to go to. All hands are not equal and while some might be able to afford very expensive schools, others look to schools with cheap school fees where they can enroll.

Federal Universities are one of the options in the country with country with low or subsidized school fees. It is widely believed that the cost of education in most federal universities is low and it is also one of the reasons why the schools are always very well sought after during the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams in Nigeria. These universities bill per session and students come times have to pay to have access to certain things or resources available in the school.

In the next sub heads, I’ll be discussing ten of the cheapest Federal Universities In Nigeria in no particular order and also a brief information about them.

FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, ABEOKUTA ( FUNAAB)

Formerly known as the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB is one for the Universities of Agriculture in Abeokuta. It is located in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The school is one of the popular universities in the country and is also known for getting high number of candidates seeking admission yearly. The school offers courses such as Crop Protection, Animal Nutrition, Plant Breeding and Seed Technology, Civil Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Water Resources and Agrometreology and many others. UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS (UNILAG)

The University of Lagos probably needs no introduction as it has a reputation for one of the most popular, if not the most, universities in the country. Also known as “University of First Choice”, the school is well known all around the country and is also recognized for having a very high number of candidates seeking admission into the school yearly. It is located in Akoka, Lagos State. The school offers courses such as Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Building Technology, Mass Communication, Law, Medicine, Philosophy, English Language, Mechanical Engineering, and many others. The school fees ranges from N14,000 to N64,000.

UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN (UNILORIN)

Just like the University of Lagos, UNILORIN is also a really popular school in the country. It also ranks as one of the Universities with highest number of candidates seeking admission into the school. The school is located in Ilorin, Kwara State. UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA (UNN)

The school was founded by Nnamdi Azikwe in 1955 and is the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous university in Nigeria, modelled upon the American educational system. OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY (OAU)
