Infuriated by the federal government poor-reaction to the incessant killings, violation of human rights and extra-judicial crimes in the country, the senator representing Bayelsa east constituency, Ben Murray-Bruce, Monday berated the activities of herdsmen in the country and called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to protect Nigerians from further killings.
Sen. Bruce, who is known for his ‘Common Sense theory’, frowned at a statement credited to the leader of the country.
According to him, “How can a nation with a police and armed forces population close to half a million be overrun by herdsmen with an expansionist and 18th century jihadist agenda? “And how can a leader say “there is nothing I can do to help the situation except to pray to God to help us out”?.
Recall that Sen. Bruce had attacked and condemned Buhari’s repeated trip to Britain and had equally opined that such vacation would only damage the country’s economy.
“Our President keeps going to Britain for ‘vacation’. Has he ever asked himself how many times the British Prime Minister has come to Nigeria for a vacation? And yet we want growth. How can we grow if we give others what they don’t give to us? What is wrong with Yankari or Obudu?
“How can we tell foreigners to visit Nigeria when Nigerian leaders take their vacation outside the country? How can we tell the world that Nigeria is safe when our leaders move with small armies to protect them from Nigerians? No one will believe in Nigeria if Nigerians don’t first believe in herself.
“Donald Trump is a billionaire who can afford to take his vacation anywhere in the world, yet he chooses to stay in America. His America First policy is bringing jobs & business back to America. In our own case, our leaders have an Europe and America first policy. This must change!” he said on Saturday.
