The Nigerian Railway Corporation says it will commence electronic ticketing by September, this year.
Managing Director of the Corporation, Fidet Okhiria said that the development was to modernize and make the system work for Nigerians.
Mr. Okhiria said that about 9 companies had signified their interest in building a solution for the project.
He stated that with the development, prospective customers could make bookings online for ticket to enjoy train services, adding that the tender was signed all the bidders at Headquarters of the Corporation at Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
Some of the companies that bid were: Turn Around Engineering Limited, Secure ID Limited, Catamaran Nig Ltd, Soft Alliance and Resources Ltd, Nexant/Innovea Backbone Connectivity Network Nig Ltd, First Index Project and Services Ltd and Euphoria Press Ltd.
The Managing Director noted that the test run of the Itakpe -Warri Standard gauge railway line will commence, next week, preparatory to the commencement of full train services in that axis.
He said that the Corporation would also, from next month, begin movement of fuel from Lagos state to Osogbo in Osun state, both in Southwest Nigeria.
