Finding the Right Scholarship for You.
Finding the Right Scholarship for You.
“Discover expert tips for finding the perfect scholarship to match your educational goals and financial needs. If you’re a student, the word “scholarship” elicits different feelings depending on your perspective. For some, it’s a way to make college or university more affordable. Others see it as an opportunity to do something meaningful with your education. And still others see scholarships as a means of achieving goals you otherwise might not have ever thought possible.
No matter what you think about them, scholarships can be an important part of how we pay for college in this country. While many are geared toward students who excel academically, there are also options for those who have other talents or abilities that might make them stand out from traditional applicant pools.
That being said, finding and winning scholarships can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start! So here’s some advice on what types of opportunities might work best for you:
Create a list of possible scholarships to apply for.
You might have a specific scholarship in mind, but you should also create a list of all the scholarships that you are eligible for. Once you’ve created this list, make sure it includes scholarships that you think are attainable as well as ones that may not seem like winners.
Think about what makes you eligible and who would be most likely to give you a scholarship based on your strengths and accomplishments.
If there’s one thing that can help in getting accepted for any type of scholarship it is knowing how to write an effective application essay. Asking yourself “who would be likely to give me a scholarship?” will help guide the writing process when crafting each essay since every essay needs to show why they should be awarded funds from someone with money or influence over who gets funded!
Read the eligibility requirements and qualifications carefully.
If a scholarship is offering money, it’s likely that they want to make sure that the scholarship goes to someone who will be able to use it. Don’t assume that you are eligible for a scholarship if you don’t meet all of the requirements listed on their website. If you don’t meet all of the requirements, do not waste your time applying for the scholarship!
If there are no clear answers by reading through their website and FAQs, contact them directly or find another way (e.g., emailing) to ask them how they would answer this question: “I am interested in applying for [name of scholarship]. I am interested in attending [college] because [why]. Can I get more information about this scholarship?”
Complete the application in its entirety.
- Make sure you answer all questions, including those in the free-response portion of your application.
- Be sure to have all required information on hand so that you can fill out the form easily, including a good photo and signature.
- If there is an essay or paper attached to your application, make sure it’s written well and has no errors in spelling, grammar or punctuation (it’s acceptable to use spell check).
- Make sure what you write makes sense and says what you want it to say without being too wordy or repetitive.
Allow sufficient time to complete the application process.
If you’re looking for the best chance of receiving the most money, apply for scholarships early. You should allow sufficient time to complete the application process. This means giving yourself plenty of time to complete essays, interviews and background checks if necessary. Additionally, be sure to provide all required documents and information on time so that your committee can review it before they have their final decision. Lastly, make sure you accept any award that is offered as soon as possible so they don’t lapse into other hands
Ask your Counsellor.
If you’re not sure where to begin, talk with your counsellor. They’ll be able to tell you about the scholarships available at your school and the criteria needed to apply. This is a great place to start because they can help steer you towards scholarships that are a good fit for both you and your major.
When talking with an academic advisor, ask them what types of things they like seeing in scholarship applications. What do they look for? Are there certain elements that make a strong application stand out? The more specific their advice is, the better prepared it will leave you before applying for any given scholarship.
Avoid applying for too many scholarships at one time.
To ensure you’re applying for the best scholarships, it’s important to be strategic with your applications. Applying for too many scholarships at once can actually work against you. If a college or scholarship committee has to review hundreds of applications in one week, they’ll get overwhelmed and may not have time to read about all of them closely enough to make informed decisions about who gets awarded their money.
You can apply for more scholarships later on if necessary—but only if you need them! If you choose just one or two awards that are perfect matches for your interests and qualifications, then your chances of winning will increase significantly over someone who applies for everything under the sun at once. You’ll also have more time available during high school (and even into early college) to apply again each year until something sticks!
Don’t get overwhelmed by scholarship hype.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of scholarship hype our society is bombarded with every day. The importance of being frugal, careful and smart can easily be forgotten when there are so many scholarships out there, claiming to have millions of dollars waiting for you. But if you don’t take care, your chances of winning a scholarship will shrink significantly. Here are five things you should remember about finding the right scholarship for you:
- Don’t get overly excited by all the hype. As tempting as it might be to believe that all those big scholarships are just waiting for you to apply, there’s no reason why they’d be interested in giving away money when they could go towards funding research or hiring teachers instead. So don’t let yourself get swept up in all the excitement; instead, focus on what’s important—what qualifies me as a candidate? Do I have what it takes? What do I need from these organizations/people? How do I go about getting them interested in my candidacy?
Scholarships can be more than just money.
Scholarships can be more than just money. They can also include resources like books, housing and food, travel to conferences, and classes in a field of study that you are passionate about. Scholarships give you flexibility to pursue your dreams, allowing you to focus on being creative and innovative instead of stressing over finances.
You don’t have to be valedictorian to win a scholarship.
In reality, you don’t need to be valedictorian or even a straight-A student to win a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded for a variety of reasons, including artistic ability and athletic prowess. You may think that because you’re not the star athlete of your school or involved with an activity club, there’s no way you can win a scholarship—but that’s not true!
Indeed, some scholarships are surprisingly easy to get. For example: did you know there’s actually an award given just on the basis of being nice? There is! It’s called “The Nicest Kid” award and it could be yours if you simply write an essay about how nice you are (along with some supporting evidence). Students who have won this award include my sister (who got it twice) and my friend’s little brother Tommy Robinson—who was so kind he even shared his prize money with his younger siblings.
Conclusion
Completing your scholarship applications can be daunting, but I hope the tips above help you find some success in your search. Keep in mind that there are lots of scholarships available to students who are willing to do the work of filling out their applications completely and correctly. And remember, even if you don’t win this time, it’s not too late to try again next year!

Post UTME 2023/2024: List of Schools Whose Forms Are Out
Post UTME 2023/2024: List of Schools Whose Forms Are Out
Starting your higher education journey in Nigeria is both thrilling and challenging, especially given today’s economy. If you’re a hopeful student eagerly anticipating updates on the post-UTME examination, you’re in the right place. After the 2023/2024 JAMB UTME examination, tertiary institutions will begin screening and aptitude tests for candidates applying to different departments.
In this guide, you’ll find the list of tertiary institutions whose Post UTME forms are currently out. We’ll also share essential tips and information for the admission process. Keep in mind that not all universities or polytechnics require Post UTME exams. If your institution isn’t listed, it might mean the list isn’t out yet or they use a different screening process for admissions.
What is Post UTME?
Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post UTME), is a standardized test conducted by universities, polytechnics and colleges in Nigeria. It is an entrance screening test/exam conducted after the JAMB UTME/DE examination. This screening is conducted by various tertiary institutions to assess candidates’ academic abilities and suitability for admission. It often includes subjects relevant to the chosen course of study and may include screening, or interviews. Post UTME scores, combined with JAMB scores, contribute to the overall admission evaluation, allowing universities to select candidates based on a more comprehensive assessment of their academic potential.
Is Post UTME Form Out?
Yes, the Post UTME form is now available. JAMB has announced the start date for selling the forms, so institutions conducting Post UTME will begin selling them.

When is the Closing Date/Deadline for Post UTME Registration?
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially set December 5, 2023, as the closing date for the registration and screening of Post UTME for the 2023/2024 session. Please note that this date could be subject to changes, and we’ll keep you informed of any updates here. In essence, JAMB has fixed December 5, 2023, as the final date for institutions to conduct Post UTME registration and screening. If there are any changes, we’ll make sure to keep you posted.
Conclusion
Getting admitted into your desired college or university depends on how well you perform in the screening exam or aptitude test. Not all Nigerian schools conduct Post UTME aptitude tests; instead, they rely on JAMB results and O’level grades for screening. Before applying for any school’s Post UTME, it’s crucial to check the JAMB Subject Combinations and O’Level requirements in the JAMB Brochure to ensure you meet the criteria.
